Dalloun / France

I was born sixty years ago in Le Berry, in the middle of France, country of goat cheese andSancerre vine, a few kilometers away from a small potters’ village. In La Borne we produced, since the XV century, a useful pottery from wood firing stoneware. The ceramic was not a familial tradition, I discovered it at 18 years old when my girlfriend took me to visit her father’s pottery studio, there I was fascinated by gesture of craftmen turners.I left the studio by taking 20 kg of clay on my moped, and without the lady … I falled in love with clay and I wanted to learn. In La Borne, the traditional pottery was decreasing but a new generation of potters and artists breathed a new dynamism aroud stoneware and wood firing kilns in the village. I made my first learning in this atmosphere with Jean LINARD. Next I lived few years of meetings, exchanges and travels, an initiation to firings at low-temperature during a symposium with Paul SOLDNER … The second revelation happened during the beginning of 90’s in front of Pierre BAYLE’s master-piece. He worked with terra sigillata slips inspired by Greco-Roman ceramic. My first personnal expériences were disappointing until I met, few years later, Tjok DESSAUVAGE. During a workshop, he allowed me to get the technical bases. For 15 years, I’m focusing exclusively on terra sigillata, I’m making my slips with collected wild clays, I’m associating them and explore their infinite variations on my bowls. New horizons have been opening with education works, international exhibitions with Chawan Expo and travels in India, in Korea and now in Taiwan.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Dalloun
